Blind Assessment: Co-cupper Wendy De Jong showed a bit more enthusiasm (89) than Ken (88) for this roast-influenced profile. For the dominant aromatic note in the cup Wendy read “fresh fig,” Ken simply “raisin.” Both cited a pungent, spicy cedar; Ken added dark chocolate. For Wendy the acidity was “mild and fruity.” Fullish body, though Ken found the mouthfeel slightly lean. Notes: A prize winner in the 2009 Honduras Cup of Excellence (www.cupofexcellence.org) competition, where as a green (unroasted) coffee it placed twenty-fifth out of hundreds of entries, attracting a score of 85.91 from an international jury. Sharing a building and ownership with Open Eye Café, Carrboro Coffee Roasters describes itself as a “premier small batch artisan coffee roastery.” Visit www.carrborocoffee.com or call 919-968-4760 for more information. Who Should Drink It: A moderately dark roast develops an attractively pungent, cedary fruit character. |
