Blind Assessment: (As brewed in a Nespresso single-serve brewing device to produce a 4-ounce serving): This blend was designed for brewing as espresso rather than a longer black coffee, accounting for the dullish acidity, but otherwise impressive in the 4-ounce format: round, deep, chocolate-and roasted-nut-toned in aroma and cup; fat body and smooth mouthfeel. Flavor fades in an otherwise sweet, rich finish.

Notes: Nespresso is an integrated coffee brewing system combining the handsome Nespresso machines with matching proprietary single-serve capsules. The Nespresso line offers sixteen different blend capsules, twelve designed for espresso brewing and four intended to produce Northern-European-style long black or "lungo" (four-ounce) servings. This blend, composed entirely of coffees from India, including what tastes like a very good quality Robusta, is one of three origin-specific offerings in the Nespresso “Grands Cru” lineup. The Nespresso capsules are coded by color and presented in boxes arrayed like precious bonbons, glowing in their contrasting matte-aluminum finishes. Nespresso is a brand and separate business unit of the Swiss-based Nestlé Corporation. Visit www.nespresso.com or call 800-562-1465 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Unusual opportunity for North Americans to try a very good European-style blend incorporating fine wet-processed Robusta coffees. Presence and gentle complexity without an acidy bite.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
