  • Ethiopia Washed Yirgacheffe, Koke Grade 1

Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: December 2009
Origin: Yirgacheffe growing region, Sidamo Province, southern Ethiopia. Price: NA

Blind Assessment: Startlingly intense, sweet-toned notes of ripe lemon, baker's chocolate and night flowers runs through the profile aroma through finish. Roundly rich acidity, plush mouthfeel. The baker's chocolate sweetens toward a crisp bittersweet chocolate in the cup and finish.

Notes: Koke is a particularly high-elevation district within the famed Yirgacheffe growing region, as well as the name of a wet mill or washing station in the area. In addition to his retail roasting operation, Aroma Roast Coffees, Simon Hsieh also runs Soaring Phoenix Trading, a business focused on high quality green single-origin coffees and commercial espresso blends. Who Should Drink It: The Yirgacheffe style at its finest and most intensely distinctive.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
