Blind Assessment: Symphonically fruit-toned and shimmeringly bright. An “underlying crushed grape sweetness” (co-cupper Wendy De Jong, 94) supported an array of lemon and berry suggestions. Ken (94) found deepening hints of fresh-cut fir and dark chocolate as well. Forward but accessible acidity, silky mouthfeel, sweetly tart finish.
Notes: Produced by Cesar Agusto Fernández on his namesake farm and a prize winner in the 2010 Honduras Cup of Excellence (www.cupofexcellence.org) competition, where as a green (unroasted) coffee it placed fourth out of hundreds of entries, attracting a score of 89.70 from an international jury. An integral part of New York’s coffee renaissance, Brooklyn-based Café Grumpy opened its first café in 2005 and has since expanded to three locations plus its roasting facility. Who Should Drink It: Refreshing, sweetly and impressively complex breakfast cup.
