Blind Assessment
Tartly lemony with a rounding cherryish sweetness and hints of nut-toned cocoa in aroma and cup. Bright acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. The lemon and cocoa notes carry into a crisp finish.
Notes
Produced mainly from trees of the admired, Bourbon-derived SL 28 and SL 34 varieties, with some addition of the Ruiru 11 hybrid. Consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops only a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading. This coffee was grown by the 1,200-member Aguthis Farmers Coop Society and processed at the Kagumo wet mill. Old Soul Company is a café, roastery and bakery based in Sacramento, California, founded in 2006 by friends Jason Griest and Tim Jordan. Who Should Drink It
Crisp, cleanly bright breakfast cup with a complicating hint of East Africa.
