Blind Assessment: Deep, rich, sweet. Roasted cacao nib, pear cider, lily-like flowers, honeydew melon in aroma and cup. Brisk though sweetly floral-toned acidity; light, silky mouthfeel. Pear and melon in particular carry into a lush, flavor-saturated short finish that turns very mildly drying in the long.
Notes: Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctively floral- and fruit-toned coffees from traditional varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. This is a “natural” or dry-processed Yirgacheffe, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit, encouraging a flavor profile that is lower-toned and more pungent than the more familiar wet-processed Yirgacheffe floral- and citrus-toned profile. Ragamuffin is a high-end nano-roaster with a charming and compelling story: Shawn and Sarah Pritchett with children in tow manage a family business dedicated to community values and quality coffee. Who Should Drink It: The slightly fermenty, cidery note complicates a pleasingly light and lively fruit-and-flowers profile. Lovers of delicately fruity but crisp white wines should particularly enjoy this cup.
