Reviews for Wicked Joe
Brandy, cherry and cedar with a backgrounded, minty dark chocolate in aroma and cup. Rich, sturdy acidity; syrupy mouthfeel. The finish is sweet and flavor-saturated, but reveals a very slight soapy, composty edge.
Price: $12.85/12 ounces
Deep-toned, quietly complex. Sweet flowers, caramel, apple in aroma and cup. Rich, round, but authoritative acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Impressively long, resonant, sweet finish.
Aromatically complete, with round sweet fruitiness, earthy aromatic wood and a hint of flowers. In the cup full body and smooth mouthfeel; sweet raisiny fruit deepens to wood, earth and dark chocolate. The deeper flavor notes carry into the finish, lingering sweetly in the long.
Co-cupper Andy Newbom (91) found much to praise (and describe) in this "complex and serious" (Andy) coffee: spice, vanilla and chocolate in the aroma, peach and grape influence in the balanced acidity, more spice and molasses together with lemon and orange zest notes in the cup. "Full and sensual" mouthfeel. Ken's (88) notes suggest he agreed with Andy on the seriousness of this coffee but harbored some reservations about its complexity. Ken found it "crisp, quiet, intense," with night flowers and dry berry notes in the cup and a simple though rich finish.
