Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: September 2013
Origin: Acatenango growing region, Guatemala. Price: CAD $11.95/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Sweetly tart, richly brisk. Cedar, plum, black currant, a hint of lemon in aroma and cup, where a slight herby suggestion contributes savory depth. Rich, lively acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor consolidates in a crisp finish.

Notes: Finca La Soledad has been a Pérez family coffee farm since 1895. It is named in honor of a Perez grandmother, Soledad. The farm is Rainforest Alliance certified, meaning it follows sustainable ecological and socio-economic criteria developed by the Sustainable Agricultural Network, a coalition of independent, environment-focused non-governmental organizations. Acatenango is the name of a coffee-growing municipality as well as a famous volcano overlooking the Antigua Valley of Guatemala. Reunion Island Coffee is a quality-oriented roasting company founded by Canadian specialty coffee veteran Peter Pesce. Visit www.reunionislandcoffee.com or call 800-565-5950 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Balance without boredom in a roundly tart, well-structured cup.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
