Coffee Review - Ecuador El Batan by Equator Coffees
93
Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: March 2013
Origin: Loja Province, Ecuador Price: $13.50/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Sweet-toned, svelte, refreshing. Honey, lemon, lilac, a hint of roasted cocoa nib in aroma and, more intensely, in the cup. Tartly sweet, lively acidity; velvety, buoyant mouthfeel. Fades just a bit in the long finish, but the short is resonant and flavor-saturated.

Notes: This exceptional coffee was selected as the #25 coffee in the Coffee Review Top 30 Coffees of 2013. This coffee is from a cooperative of twenty-two farmers clustered near the Ecuador village of El Batan. Equator has extended micro-credits to the cooperative over the last several years and this coming season plans to purchase its entire production. This coffee is certified organically grown and Fair Trade, meaning it was purchased from small-holding farmers at a "fair" or economically sustainable price. Equator is a specialty roaster based in the San Francisco Bay Area driven by “passion for quality and sustainability.” Visit www.equatorcoffees.com or call 800-809-7687 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy a very pure, balanced lighter-roasted cup, graceful and lyric.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
