Espresso Review - Rutana Burundi Espresso by Johnson Brothers Coffee
94
Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: February 2013
Origin: Burundi Price: $13.99/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Richly tart yet profoundly sweet. Raspberry-toned dark chocolate, orange or tangerine marmalade, crisp cedar, a hint of flowers in aroma and small cup. Full, buttery mouthfeel. Flavor rounds without losing its complexity or sweetly tart authority in two- to four-parts milk.

Notes: Burundi is a small, landlocked country in Central Africa. Most coffee is grown in the mountains of the north, bordering Rwanda. Benefiting from ideal growing conditions and large plantings of Bourbon and related heirloom varieties of Arabica, Burundi coffee has an excellent reputation and a growing following among North American specialty roasters. This Burundi is specially roasted for espresso brewing. Johnson Brothers Coffee Roasters is a distinguished small-batch roasting company. Who Should Drink It: A superb single-origin espresso, which illustrates how successfully the pleasures of a sweetly bright, high-grown coffee can be deepened but not muted for espresso brewing.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
