Roast: Medium Review Date: September 2011
Origin: Southern Honduras. Price: $15.90/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Tart berry notes, pungent fir, and an enveloping cocoa sweetness in both aroma and cup. Zesty, delicate acidity; silky mouthfeel. The sweet cocoa carries into a roundly balanced finish with a slight savory edge.

Notes: Grown in the Santa Barbara region by farmer Bertilio Portillo, one of whose coffees won the 2009 Honduras Cup of Excellence competition, the most respected competition for green coffees from a given country of origin. Bard Coffee is a coffeehouse and roasting company based in Portland, Maine, focused on distinctive single-origin coffees. Bard Coffee is co-owned by Bob Garver, founder of Wicked Joe coffee and a frequent judge at barista competitions in the United States and internationally. Who Should Drink It: Solidly satisfying breakfast cup with a quiet, tartly rich complexity associated with cultivars derived from the heirloom Bourbon variety of Arabica, in this case, Pacas.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
