  • Costa Rica Helsar Espresso

Roast: Medium Review Date: September 2010
Origin: West Valley growing region, Costa Rica. Price: $19.00/500 g. (17.6 oz.)

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Cherry and chocolate dominate in the small cup and linger deeply into the finish, with layered complications of flowers, aromatic wood and anise. In two parts milk the chocolate becomes deeper and the fruit slightly less nuanced, but overall flavor remains sweet, round and balanced.

Notes: Named after the micro-mill Helsar de Zarcero located in the West Valley of Costa Rica, this lot is made up entirely of the Caturra variety of Arabica. Coava is a Portland based coffee roaster that aims to provide quality coffee and the knowledge needed to properly brew that coffee. Who Should Drink It: Powerful straight shot; sweet and balanced in milk.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
