Coffee Review - Guatemala Guaya'b from Matt's Wood-Roasted Organic Coffee

  • Guatemala Guaya'b

Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: August 2010
Origin: Huehuetenango growing region, Guatemala. Price: $10.50/12 oz.

Blind Assessment: Rich aroma: sweet nut and cocoaish chocolate, lemon, stone fruit, aromatic wood. All carry into a deceptively complex cup, softly layered rather than intense. Balanced acidity and lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Very sweet finish; flavors outlast a very slight astringency.

Notes: Certified organically grown by the Guaya'b Cooperative of small-holding Mayan-Quiche farmers in the admired Huehuetenango growing region. As the name indicates, Matt's Wood-Roasted Organic Coffee focuses on sourcing fine organic coffees and roasting in small batches on a vintage Italian wood-fired roaster. Who Should Drink It: Delicate yet complex, quietly distinctive Guatemala.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
