Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: December 1997
Origin: Various Price: NA

Blind Assessment: Rich, round, complete. The aroma in particular displayed an impressive range, from sweet nut tones through a dark pungency. This pleasing bittersweet balance prevailed through to finish. A good example of a coffee brought to a darkish roast style tactfully enough to avoid carbon while maintaining sweetness. Little discernible acidity, but enough to keep the profile from going flat.

Notes: A blunt but forceful coffee with a stark pungency. Sweet and rich in the nose, but hardens uncomfortably in the cup. The package displays a clearly marked roast date. My sample was roasted only a few days before the cupping, which may account for the high score on aroma.

Who Should Drink It: The holiday factor:Sweet, smooth and relaxing, perhaps even comforting. Black-coffee drinkers who find acidy profiles uncomfortable should particularly enjoy this one. Buy it for the weekend when the holiday pressure's off and there's nothing to do but recycle boxes, right tricycles and make turkey soup.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
