Blind Assessment: Smoky, pungent. Very lightly scorched cedar, black tea, hints of lily-like flowers and rosemary in aroma and cup. Roast-muted acidity; leanish but silky mouthfeel. The mildly scorched cedar rounds toward chocolate in a simple but sweet finish.
Notes: Like all Haitian coffee, this is produced entirely from trees of the strain of the Typica variety of Arabica originally planted in Martinique. Haitian Bleu is a protected name for a coffee produced by a large federation of Haitian small-holding farmers called Cafeieres Natives. All Haitian Bleu coffee is washed or wet-processed, unlike most Haitian coffee, which is prepared by the natural method. Certified organically grown. Café Kreyol is a micro-roaster founded in Fairfax Virginia with the mission of the improved lives of coffee farmers in Haiti. Visit www.cafekreyol.com or call 703-989-6751 for more information.
Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy pungently bracing medium-dark-roasted coffees and who want to help improve the difficult lives of small-holding Haitian farmers.
