Blind Assessment
Bright and juicy-sweet. Lilac, pomegranate, wine barrel, blueberry yogurt, dark chocolate in aroma and cup. Sweetly tart, juicy acidity; syrupy-smooth mouthfeel. Lilac and pomegranate comingle with dark chocolate in the crisp finish.
Notes
Produced by Kateshi Estate, which is one of the few farms in Zambia to employ women, from trees of the Castillo, Catimor 129 and F6 varieties of Arabica, and processed by the anaerobic natural method, in which the whole fruit is fermented in tanks with limited oxygen before drying, also in the whole fruit. City Boy Coffee is a specialty roaster based in Long Island City, New York. Visit www.cityboycoffee.com for more information.
Bottom Line
Call this a “cocktail coffee,” if you will, or perhaps a “mocktail,” for its notes of wine barrel and sweet ferment alongside dark chocolate and pomegranate — close your eyes and you might not know it’s coffee.
