Blind Assessment
Bright, crisply sweet-tart. Peach, nougat, roasted cacao nib, lavender, cedar in aroma and cup. Tart-leaning, sweet structure with juicy acidity; delicate, satiny mouthfeel. The richly drying finish is balanced and resonant, leading with notes of peach and nougat in the short, rounding to cocoa in the long.
Notes
This coffee tied for the fourth-highest rating in a cupping of coffees from the Great Lakes region of Africa for Coffee Review’s June 2018 tasting report. Folly's Winer label is a rotating selection of coffees with bright or wine-like acidity; the roaster is currently featuring this coffee from Burundi, produced at the state-owned Bwayi washing station in the Kayanza region of northern Burundi. Benefiting from ideal growing conditions and large plantings of local strains of the heirloom Bourbon variety of Arabica, Burundi has recently emerged as a premier Africa fine coffee origin. Folly Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster based in Silver Lake, Minnesota. Visit www.follycoffee.com for more information.
Bottom Line
An exhilaratingly high-toned Burundi with notes of stone fruit and spicy florals, enriched by cocoa tones throughout.
