Blind Assessment
Disconcertingly perfumy yet brisk. Intense flowers, Riesling wine, cocoa nib, berry, fir in aroma and cup. In structure, sweetly fermenty with a brisk, bitterish edge. Leanish but silky mouthfeel. The bittersweet structure carries into the finish where floral and wood notes jostle.
Notes
Produced entirely from trees of the Liberica species and processed by the natural method (dried in the whole fruit) in Uganda. It was then fermented in anaerobic conditions with natural rose petals from Pingtung County in southern Taiwan. This last step, an add-on to the processing at origin, would seem to make this a naturally flavored coffee. Bottom Line
Lush floral sweetness overlays a brisk bitterness in this interesting, paradoxical coffee. Hard to say to what degree we are tasting a natural-processed Liberica coffee and to what degree Taiwanese rose petals; nevertheless, an engaging sensory trip.
