Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Crisp, intensely sweet, balanced. Jasmine, tangerine, cedar, baker’s chocolate, almond in aroma and small cup. Plush, syrupy body. The richly drying, sweet finish consolidates to almond and fruit-toned chocolate. Both the almond and chocolate carry brightly into three parts milk.
Notes: This coffee was produced by people of Taiwan’s second-largest indigenous culture, the Paiwan, from trees of the traditional typica variety. Certified organically grown. In addition to his retail roasting operation, Aroma Roast Coffees, Simon Hsieh also operates Soaring Phoenix Trading, a business focused on purpose-built commercial espresso blends and high quality single-origin coffees. The Bottom Line: A crisp, citrus-toned, chocolaty espresso with an engaging story and origin. Particularly fine as a straight shot.
