Blind Assessment: Richly sweet-savory, deeply aromatic. Black currant, cocoa nib, pink peppercorn, lilac, sandalwood in aroma and cup. Sweet-savory structure with high-toned acidity; viscous, satiny mouthfeel. Resonant, umami-leaning finish with notes of pink peppercorn and sandalwood.
Notes: Produced by smallholding farmers of the Gayo 1, Gayo 2, P88, Abyssinia, and Ateng Super varieties of Arabica and and processed by the wet, or washed, method. Revel Coffee is a micro-roaster located in Billings, Montana. Its motto: “Quality is paramount – a difference you can revel in.” Visit www.revelcoffee.com or call 406-534-9621 for more information.
The Bottom Line : A washed-process Sumatra with engaging high-toned fruit and complex spice tones not typical of the usual wet-hulled coffees produced in this region. Drink it for its originality and its intrigue.
