Blind Assessment: (As brewed in a Senseo single-serve brewing device to produce a 4+-ounce serving): Some genuine Sumatra character lifts its head out of a woody astringency probably related to paper pod brewing generally and the water quality of our sample Senseo machine in particular. On the positive side, pruny sweetness and a hint of earthy, butterscotchy Sumatra pungency in aroma and cup.
Notes: Douwe Egberts, the venerable Dutch firm become a world player and now a part of food giant Sara Lee, produces a variety of coffee blends. The Senseo-Douwe Egberts Sumatra Blend is one of ten non-flavored coffees offered in pods by Douwe Egberts under the Senseo brand name. These pods can be used either in the inexpensive Senseo pod machine or the Bunn My Café. Visit
Who Should Drink It : Those with brewing devices that use paper pods willing to put up with the wood to get at some Sumatra.
