Blind Assessment
Intense yet still expressive dark roast. Charred oak, cooked lemon zest, chocolate, anise in aroma and cup. Dry, bittersweet structure; roast-thinned but smooth mouthfeel. In the finish, chocolate emerges with some sweetness out of a scorched-wood matrix.
Notes
This is a dark-roasted blend containing unspecified percentages of coffees of the Arabica and Robusta species, with the inclusion of the Robusta aimed at delivering an extra boost of caffeine. One of the country’s pioneering socially and environmentally progressive roasters, Thanksgiving aimed to combine coffee quality with social and environmental responsibility many years before the latter preoccupations became fashionable. Bottom Line
Despite the very dark roast, this blend shows no rubber notes and very little astringency while delivering extra caffeine and some attractive chocolate and lemon-merenge pie notes.
