Blind Assessment: Rich, low-toned, savory. Walnut, salty dark chocolate, caramel and a hint of flowers in aroma and cup. Round, muted acidity; full, slightly rough mouthfeel. Chocolate in particular lingers in a long finish.
Notes: Mocha-Java is the world’s earliest blend. It combined the only two coffees available in the world in the 17th century: “Mocha” from Yemen and Java from the Dutch colony in what is now Indonesia. This version combines the traditional Yemen with a Sumatra in place of the Java plus a third coffee from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.
