Blind Assessment:

Sweet-toned, delicate, though rather simple. Cocoa and nut in aroma and cup, with faint hints of lemon and flowers. Round, muted acidity; smooth but rather lean mouthfeel. Some flavor carries into the short finish but fades toward astringency in the long.

Sold roasted and ground in a (very handsome) 8.8-ounce can. Composed of 100% Arabica coffees. Compared to other coffees in our 2011 testing of pre-ground nationally distributed supermarket brands, very pricy at $1.82 per dry ounce. Illy Caffè produces some of the world’s most refined all-Arabica espresso coffees and is a worldwide advocate for quality and technical sophistication in coffee production. This coffee apparently represents Illy’s effort to appeal to the more upscale segment of the American grocery store market. Visit www.illy.com or call 800-872-4559 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Lovers of very delicate drip coffee.
