Blind Assessment

Gentle but intense; roundly pungent. Dark chocolate, black currant, brown sugar, rhododendron-like flowers. Quietly and sweetly tart acidity; lightly syrupy, buoyant mouthfeel. Black currant, in particular carries, into a gently tart finish.

Notes

Produced from a mix of trees from several varieties, including the heirloom Blue Mountain and the recently developed hybrid Batian. Most Kenya coffees sold in North America are produced in south-central Kenya, near the capital of Nairobi. This one was produced in the Kisii or Gusii Highlands in the southwest. AA is the highest grade of Kenya coffee based on bean size and fewest physical imperfections. Abundancia is a third-generation family-owned coffee producer, with land in Kirinyaga, Kangundo and Kisii, Kenya, that roasts and markets its own coffee. Visit www.abundanciacoffee.com for more information.

Who Should Drink It

A gently stated, but quite classic, Kenya: the sweetly tart, pungent black currant note softens in a cushion of dark chocolate and molasses-toned sweetness.
