Blind Assessment: Deeply rich, crisply sweet-savory. Graham cracker, violet, black currant, blood-orange zest, raw chocolate in aroma and cup. Zesty, well-integrated acidity; syrupy-smooth mouthfeel. The quietly elegant finish leads with soft florals in the short that build and deepen to black currant and chocolate in the long.
Notes: From the slopes of Mt. Elgon in far western Kenya rather than from the more familiar growing regions of central Kenya. Produced by the approximately 1,000 small-holding members of the Kapsakiso cooperative from trees of the admired SL28 and SL34 varieties of Arabica. Founded in 1990, Lexington Coffee is an award-winning artisan roasting company based in Virginia. The Bottom Line: An enticing, classic Kenya: bright, juicy, crisp, powerful yet finely balanced.
