Blind Assessment: Muted, sweet. Roasted cacao nib, apricot, tangerine zest, unroasted hazelnut, fresh-cut fir in aroma and cup. Quiet, gently tart acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor consolidates in a drying finish with some sweetness in the long.
Notes: Produced by small-holding farmers and processed by the wet-processed or washed method. Allegro Coffee is a long-established specialty roaster now a subsidiary of Whole Foods Market. Allegro Coffee Roasters is a new Allegro brand designed around selling elite small-lot coffees artisan-roasted in satellite locations. This coffee apparently was roasted at Allegro’s Denver, Colorado roastery. Visit www.allegrocoffee.com or call 800-227-1107 for more information.
The Bottom Line : Zesty, sweet, gently tart. An unusual small-holder coffee from Java, an origin best known for coffees from large, government-operated estates.
