Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Clean, sweet, gently tart, honey-toned. All three reviewers were impressed by the clean, sweet balance of this espresso, delivering almost identical scores: John DiRuocco 92, Jen Apodaca 93, Ken 92. Honey figured in everyone’s descriptors; Ken and John also found berry and a backgrounded cocoa butter. Citrusy in three parts milk, with an enveloping chocolate. “I could drink this every day,” Jen added.
Notes: Produced by the Ovalle Altuve family at Finca Palo Blanco from trees of the Bourbon, Caturra and Catuai varieties of Arabica. Processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying). This coffee tied for the second-highest rating in a tasting of single-origin espressos from the Americas for Coffee Review‘s November 2016 tasting report. The Bottom Line: A classic espresso in the new-American, lighter-roasted style, sweet and honey-toned, softly bright.
