Blind Assessment: Richly sweet-savory, chocolate-toned. Dark chocolate, date, pralines, tiger lily, a hint of cumin in aroma and cup. Sweet-savory structure with gentle, round acidity; plump, syrupy mouthfeel. Gently drying finish is chocolaty through and through with undertones of pralines and flowers.
Notes: This coffee tied for the second-highest rating in a cupping of washed-process coffees from Central America and Mexico for Coffee Review’s September 2020 report. Produced by Carolos Rivas at La Union Farm from trees of the Bourbon and Caturra varieties of Arabica and processed by the washed method. Founded in 1994, Kaldi's Coffee is a quality-oriented small-batch roaster with several cafes throughout Missouri. Visit www.kaldiscoffee.com or call 888-892-6333 for more information.
The Bottom Line : A particularly chocolaty Guatemala coffee with an intriguing savory undertone akin to cumin that anchors and balances the cup’s deep sweetness.
