Blind Assessment:

Evaluated as espresso. Deeply sweet yet richly tart; intricate. Bakers’ chocolate, raspberry, blood orange, lily-like flowers in aroma and small cup. Plump, velvety mouthfeel. Lightly resonant, savory-sweet finish. In three parts milk, buttery cocoa, tart fruit and big floral notes.

With two locations in Southern California’s Orange County, Kéan Coffee is an in-house coffee roaster and retailer established by Martin Diedrich of the distinguished Diedrich coffee family. The Kéan slogan, “Martin knows his beans” should be true, considering Martin grew up in Guatemala where his family owned a coffee farm. Who Should Drink It: Those who value expressive complexity both in flavor and in structure, where sweet and tart are complicated by a hint of savory.
