Blind Assessment: Deep-toned, richly dry and pungent. Black tea, bergamot, baking chocolate, honeysuckle, oak in aroma and cup. Compelling bittersweet structure with crisp, citrusy acidity; tannic yet voluptuous mouthfeel. Baking chocolate and black tea carry the short finish, with bergamot and oak resurfacing in the long.
Notes: This coffee tied for the third-highest rating in a cupping of coffees from roasters in the northwestern U.S. for Coffee Review’s April 2020 tasting report. Produced by members of the Adame Garbota Cooperative and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying). Olympia Coffee Roasting is a small-batch wholesale and retail roasting company with a youthful, no-nonsense style and a commitment to high-quality organic coffees. The Bottom Line: A richly bracing cup with citrus and floral aromatics reminiscent of Earl Grey tea, but powerfully expressed in coffee terms.
