Blind Assessment: Sweetly roast-toned: aromatic wood and flowers. Hazelnut, scorched cedar, orange zest, magnolia, cocoa in aroma and cup. Quietly bittersweet and zesty structure; smoothly satiny mouthfeel. Cocoa and scorched wood animate a rather dry finish.
Notes: A blend created by Magnolia founder Jay Gestwicki in honor of his father. Proceeds from the sale of this coffee in North Carolina support clean water initiatives by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. This coffee tied for the sixth-highest rating in a tasting of nearly 130 darker-roasted coffees for Coffee Review‘s August 2017 tasting report. The Bottom Line: Unusual juxtaposition of aromatic wood, flowers and cocoa animate a zesty, bittersweet medium-dark-roasted blend.
