Blind Assessment: Refined, richly complex. Spice box, cocoa powder, lemon zest, pineapple guava, walnut in aroma and cup. Gentle, backgrounded acidity; crisp, silky mouthfeel. The rich-toned, flavor-saturated finish is redolent of spice box and lemon zest in the short, with cocoa-toned walnut lingering in the long.
Notes: Produced at La Altura farm entirely from trees of the ancient, exotic Moka variety of Arabica. Processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying). This coffee tied for the third-highest rating in a cupping of Costa Rica coffees for Coffee Review‘s October 2016 tasting report. Revel Coffee is a micro-roaster located in Billings, Montana. The Bottom Line: An unusual cup from an unusual variety of Arabica: gentle acidity with a particularly long, resonant finish.
