Blind Assessment: A pure, ready-to-drink bottled coffee tested over ice. Bittersweet, roast-toned. Round but slightly bitterish acidity; full mouthfeel. In the flavor prune, apricot, scorched wood, dark chocolate, with a hint of citrus. In the finish sweetens and softens with a clearer expression of chocolate. The addition of cold milk surprisingly emphasizes the roasty tones and reasserts the bittersweet edge of the chocolate.
Notes: This coffee is certified organic and is prepared by the cold-brew method, which involves prolonged steeping of ground coffee in cold or room-temperature water and subsequent filtering. Bottled and sold without additives or any ingredient other than coffee and water. Groundwork is a Los Angeles based micro-roaster focusing on certified organic and fair-trade coffees. Who Should Drink It: Those who value the bracing chocolate-toned bittersweetness of darker roasted coffees should enjoy this cold-brewed version of the style.
