Blind Assessment: Bright, delicate coffee alive with flowers, lemon, cocoa and a slightly pungent melon-like note. Gentle, brisk acidity; light but silky smooth mouthfeel. Lemon and cocoa in particular carry into the rich, sweet-toned finish.
Notes: Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctively floral- and fruit-toned coffees from traditional varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. Yirgacheffe coffees like this one processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp is removed before drying) typically express great aromatic complexity and intensity with a particular emphasis on citrus and floral notes. This coffee is certified organically grown and Fair Trade, meaning it was purchased from small-holding farmers at a "fair" or economically sustainable price. Café Tierra is a Fair Trade/organic brand that created in 1983 by Coffee Bean International, a large Portland-based specialty wholesale roaster. A portion of the proceeds from every 12-ounce bag sold is donated to Coffee Kids, an organization that works with coffee-farming families to improve their lives and livelihoods. Visit
Who Should Drink It: Quietly distinctive Yirgacheffe should please lovers of classic coffees without alarming them with excessive aromatic fireworks.
