Blind Assessment
Sweet-savory, gently bright. Pipe tobacco, blood orange, roasted cacao nib, Brazil nut, freesia in aroma and cup. Sweetly brisk acidity; light but plush mouthfeel. The long, resonant finish is deeply saturated with nut, tobacco and floral notes.
Notes
Burundi is a small, landlocked country in Central Africa. Most coffee is grown in the mountains of the north, bordering Rwanda. Benefiting from ideal growing conditions and large plantings of the heirloom Bourbon variety of Arabica, Burundi coffee has an excellent reputation, though it is better known in Europe than in the United States. This Burundi was produced at the state-owned Bwayi (pronounced Buh-why-ee) washing station in the Kayanza region of northern Burundi at an altitude of 5,800 feet or 1,760 meters. Thirty-Thirty is a small-batch coffee roasting company located in Peoria, Illinois committed to sourcing the finest green coffees and to expressing the individuality and character of those coffees from roasting process to the cup. Bottom Line
A compelling example of a central Africa coffee, with a balance of sweet and savory elements and a pretty florality in the background throughout.
