Blind Assessment

Complexly layered, richly sweet. Ripe blueberry, sweet wood, grapefruit zest, dark chocolate, ginger flower in aroma and cup. Sweet, fruit-forward structure complicated by spicy floral notes; full, syrupy mouthfeel. The crisp, bittersweet finish centers on tart fruit and florals deepened by chocolate.

Notes

The co-op that produced this coffee is named after Adado, a culture in the Gedeo Zone of Yirgacheffe. There are eight mills in the region that represent about 7,000 farmers, all of whom are members of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU). Southern Ethiopia coffees like this one are produced from traditional Ethiopian varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. This is a dry-processed or “natural” Yirgacheffe, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with wet-processed or “washed” coffees. Kakalove Café is a nano-roaster located in the small city of Chia-Yi in Taiwan that strives to procure and roast the finest quality coffee. Visit www.kakalovecafe.com.tw or email [email protected] for more information.

Bottom Line

An appealingly meandering, spice-toned floral cup, centered on the ripe, faintly fermenty blueberry notes often pleasingly characteristic of dried-in-the-fruit or “natural”-processed coffees like this one.
