Blind Assessment
Distinctive and unusual. Herbal florals, cedar, bittersweet cocoa, molasses, and lemon balm in aroma and cup. Quiet acidity; smooth, medium body. The finish is long and gently drying, with hints of spice and herb mingling with sweet cocoa.
Notes
Produced on Elephant Island in South Africa, entirely of the Racemosa species, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Sea Island Coffee is a London-based roaster specializing in rare origins and varieties. Visit seaislandcoffee.com for more information.
Bottom Line
A rare offering from the little-known Racemosa species, this coffee is more subtle than flashy: gently complex, leaning toward herbal, spicy, and cocoa-toned notes rather than fruit or floral fireworks. An origin for the adventurous drinker, offering rarity and distinctiveness more than conventional sweetness.
