Blind Assessment
Very sweet, layered, original. Fresh pipe tobacco, dried pineapple, vanilla bean, honeysuckle, hops in aroma and cup. Candy-sweet and juicy in structure; plush mouthfeel. Turns crisper with more hops in the layered finish.
Notes
This hyper-creative version of the Mocha-Java blend archetype combines a Philippines coffee co-fermented with pineapple, a natural-processed Ethiopia and an anaerobic-processed Colombia from the rare Java tree variety. “Not your grandmother’s Mocha-Java” the Mostra website declares, which is something of an understatement. Mostra Coffee is a women-, minority-, veteran-, and immigrant-owned micro-roaster based in North County San Diego. For more information, visit www.mostracoffee.com.
Bottom Line
An exciting and strikingly original take on the Mocha-Java theme.
