Blind Assessment
Evaluated as espresso. Deeply sweet, floral- and fruit-driven. Vanilla orchid, red currant, dark chocolate, brown sugar, almond butter in aroma and small cup. Richly syrupy mouthfeel; integrated, harmonious, richly chocolaty-floral finish. In cappuccino format, lush and dessert-like, with chocolate fudge, currant compote, and floral honey weaving a luxurious balance.
Notes
This exceptional coffee was selected as the No. 30 coffee on Coffee Review’s list of the Top 50 Coffees of 2025. Produced at a 50-acre farm in Moa’ula, Kaʻū in Hawai’i Island, from trees of the Lemira and Catuai varieties of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying), with the addition of yeasts to the fermentation. Big Island Coffee Roasters is an award-winning coffee roaster operated with hands-on passion by Kelleigh Stewart and Brandon von Damitz. Visit www.bigislandcoffeeroasters.com for more information.
Bottom Line
A stellar Kaʻū espresso that is both distinctive and versatile — elegant and complex in the straight shot, extravagantly sweet and creamy in milk.
