Blind Assessment
Exceptionally rich, complex, deeply sweet. Black cherry, dark chocolate, gardenia, maple syrup, cedar in aroma and cup. Lively, beautifully integrated acidity; sumptuous, elegant, syrupy-smooth mouthfeel. The finish is long, flavor-saturated and resonant, centered around dark chocolate, black cherry and maple syrup notes
Notes
This coffee won 1st place (Gold) in the Traditional Washed category, U.S. division, of the inaugural Kenneth Davids Cup. Produced at Hula Daddy Farm, entirely of the SL34 variety of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Hula Daddy is a boutique coffee producer with farms at the 1,400- and 2,500-foot levels of the Mount Hualalai volcano near the northern end of the Kona growing district, five minutes above the town of Kailua-Kona. Bottom Line
A magnificent Kona SL34: opulent, deeply sweet and sensuously structured, with lush fruit and spice-toned florals framed by dark chocolate.
