Blind Assessment
Bright, juicy, intricately layered. Black currant, pink grapefruit, wild honey, candied violet, ripe tomato. Lively, juicy acidity; delicate, silky texture. Long, resonant finish with fruit and floral persistence and an umami undercurrent.
Notes
Produced by smallholding farmers, from trees of the SL38 and SL34 varieties of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying) at the Gakuyuini Station. This coffee consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. SÖT Coffee Roaster, based in Osaka, Japan, is a self-described Swedish-style roaster with an “aggressively light” roasting style. For more information, visit www.sotcoffee.com.
Bottom Line
A vibrant Kenya peaberry, classic at the savory end of the spectrum, with a throughline of ripe tomato — also deeply sweet, citrusy and dynamic throughout the profile.
