Blind Assessment
Vibrant, juicy, deeply sweet. Black currant, blood orange, dark chocolate, tomato leaf, cedar in aroma and cup. Bright, savory-sweet acidity; full, satiny-smooth mouthfeel. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of black currant, complex citrus and dark chocolate.
Notes
This coffee earned Finalist recognition in the Traditional Washed category, U.S. division, of the inaugural Kenneth Davids Cup. Produced by smallholding members of the Kagumo Farmers Cooperative Society, from trees of th Batian, SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 varieties of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Rick and Randy Evans founded Evans Brothers Coffee in 2009, focused on sourcing and roasting the finest small lots of seasonally available coffees in a context of sustainability and responsibility. Bottom Line
A classically expressive Kenya: juicy, richly fruit-toned and crisply structured, with florals and an umami throughline complicating the cup.
