Blind Assessment
Balanced, nut- and cocoa-toned. Hazelnut, baking chocolate, date, orange zest, maple syrup in aroma and cup. Round acidity; plush, syrupy mouthfeel. Finish is rich and sweetly nutty with a chocolate-orange edge.
Notes
Produced by the FECCEG (Federación Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala), a cooperative of 12 smaller groups representing over 1,000 smallholding farmers across Guatemala (one-third of whom are women), from trees of the Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and Sarchimor varieties of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Utopian Coffee is a specialty roaster based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Visit www.utopiancoffee.com for more information.
Bottom Line
A pleasingly familiar Guatemala cup: nut, cocoa, and sweet fruit woven into a round, balanced, and accessible cup.
