Blind Assessment
Vivid, sweetly fruit-driven and deeply aromatic. Red currant, apricot, blood orange, hibiscus and milk chocolate in aroma and cup. Bright, juicy acidity; syrupy-smooth mouthfeel. The finish is long and resonant, with red currant, hibiscus and milk chocolate notes.
Notes
This coffee earned Finalist recognition in the Experimental category, U.S. division, of the inaugural Kenneth Davids Cup. Produced by smallholding farmers, entirely of the Bourbon variety of Arabica, and processed by the honey method, in which some of the fruit flash is left on the beans during the drying process. This coffee consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Bottom Line
A beautifully expressive Burundi honey peaberry that layers vivid fruit and sweet florals with chocolate richness in a rich, complex, exceptionally balanced cup.
