Roast: NA Review Date: July 2000
Origin: Boquete growing region, Chiriqui Province, Panama. Price: NA

Blind Assessment: An intensely contradictory coffee. On one hand: full, smooth body, expressively and deeply sweet, long, vibrant finish. On the downside: grassy undertones and an odd edginess to the fruit that grew more obvious as the cup cooled. Some panelists went exclusively with the upside, others only with the down, while a few celebrated the paradox, sometimes in rather unconventional language: "bold, rough, strong -- Neanderthal ancestors," wrote one. One thing is certain: This coffee is considerably more interesting than its rating suggests.

Notes: An intensely contradictory coffee. On one hand: full, smooth body, expressively and deeply sweet, long, vibrant finish. On the downside: grassy undertones and an odd edginess. From several farms operated by Casa Ruiz, a family-owned integrated coffee company. Grown at elevations averaging around 4,700 feet (1,450 meters). Processed by the traditional ferment and washed method. From the 1999/2000 crop.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
