  • Guatemala Finca San Jorge Maracaturra

Roast: Light Review Date: October 2013
Origin: Palencia, south-central Guatemala. Price: $18.00/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Gently pungent, nut-toned. Hazelnut, fresh-cut fir, green grape, roasted cacao nib in aroma and cup. Crisp, delicately lively acidity; silky mouthfeel. Balanced, quietly flavor-saturated finish, gently drying in the long.

Notes: Maracaturra is a recently developed cross between the huge-beaned Maragogipe and the compact-growing Caturra varieties of Arabica. Water Avenue Coffee is a tiny roastery nestled next to the railway in the old Industrial Southeast quarter in Portland, Oregon. Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy gently dry, nut-toned coffees; aficionados interested in sampling a nicely roasted permutation of an interesting hybrid variety.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
