Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: June 2013
Origin: Lintong growing region, northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Price: NT $420/200 grams

Blind Assessment: Complexly fruit- and cider-toned. Shifting, layered fruit – banana, grape, kiwi and more – in a cidery, brandyish expression rounded and anchored by dark chocolate and spicy pine. Round, softly vibrant acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor fades just a bit in an otherwise sweet, deep, long finish.

Notes: This is a dry-processed or "natural" coffee, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with the “wet-hulled” coffees more typical of northern Sumatra. Wahana Estate is a relatively new coffee farm in the classic Lintong growing district near Lake Toba. Home Barista Workshop is a specialty roaster based in Taipei, Taiwan. The owner, Ricky Chang, provides high-quality, freshly roasted coffee for Taiwan and Hong Kong customers. Visit www.homebaristaworkshop.com or call +886-975393424 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: An elegant and engaging variation on the dried-in-the-fruit cup, with the fermenty edge to the fruit lush yet crisply restrained.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
