Blind Assessment: Fresh, lyric, exceptional. Honey, flowers (lavender, violets), raw baker’s chocolate, and a lavish fruit sensation suggesting nectarine, guava, peach and doubtless much more. The acidity is gentle and backgrounded but vibrant; the mouthfeel smoothly syrupy but buoyant. Almost everything in the cup is hinted at in the rich finish.

Notes: Produced from trees of the rare Ethiopia-derived botanical variety Gesha (also spelled Geisha). With its generally elongated beans and distinctive floral and crisp, often chocolaty cup, the Gesha variety continues to distinguish itself as one of the world's most unique coffees. This is a dry-processed or "natural" version, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with wet-processed or "washed" coffees. Who Should Drink It: A light but fully developed roast foregrounds an extraordinary version of a very rare coffee. If you splurge on it for the holidays do your splurging close to when you are planning to drink the coffee, brew it carefully, and leave the sweetener on the counter and the dairy in the fridge.
