Blind Assessment:

Richly pungent, resonantly roast-toned. Musk, orange zest, baker’s chocolate, scorched mesquite, floral top notes in aroma carry into the cup, where the chocolate moves forward. In structure sweetly and vibrantly roast-toned, balanced, resonant. Light, satiny mouthfeel. Chocolate and flowers dominate in the short finish; the long turns slightly scorch and dry, though flavor persists.

This excellent coffee was recognized as one of the three most exciting darker roasts of 2017.  Certified organically grown. This coffee tied for the third-highest rating in a tasting of nearly 130 darker-roasted coffees for Coffee Review‘s August 2017 tasting report. Mellelo Coffee Roasters is a three-location quality-oriented roastery and cafe chain established in 1992 by Salvatore Mellelo in Medford, Oregon. The Bottom Line: A no-apologies dark roast that retains resonant complexity and vibrant balance throughout the profile.
